The Erie Downtown Partnership will be kicking off an exciting month of biker-friendly events in downtown with our second Bike Night of the summer this Friday, July 11th on State between 4th and 12th Street. But that’s not all, bikers from across the country are revving up their engines getting ready for Roar on the Shore Bike Rally, which will begin on Wednesday, July 16th. This event, hosted by the Manufacture’s and Business Association, brings more than 100,000 bikers and bike enthusiasts into the region. The event takes place in the heart of downtown Erie in Perry Square and down State Street.
Roar is a three-day rally of rides, bands, bike contests, custom motorcycles, bike accessories and more that brings thousands of people into the downtown area. This is one of the fastest growing free bike rallies in the United States and is held right here in our community!
Not only is it good for the local economy but it is also a benefit to local charities as well. This year’s rally will benefit St. Patrick’s Haven a shelter for homeless men that is operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of North Western PA. The Haven is meant to establish a ministry presence as well as providing a place of welcome, nightly shelter, food, comfort and friendship to the men needing assistance.
While Haven wishes to always continue to operate and serve the community, the shelter operates strictly on donations which is why the Sisters of St. Joseph are blessed to be chosen as the charity for Roar on the Shore this year. Being involved with Roar will provide them the stability to operate in a way they haven’t had previously.
The sisters are also excited for the new Faith and Freedom Bayfront Ride with the Sisters of St. Joseph which will originate at St. Patrick’s Haven to help create awareness about the Haven and their cause.
The festivities will begin with Grand Marshall, Danny “The Count” Koker, leading more than 5,000 riders through the streets of Erie for the Roar on the Shore Parade on July 17th. There will be eight local and regional bands playing during the weekend and the headliner, John Kay and Steppenwolf, will preform on July 18th. There will also be rides, special events, vendors and more taking place in downtown and the surrounding Erie area during this exciting weekend.
We want to make businesses aware of the huge crowds expected to be Downtown this weekend. This event is a great opportunity for us to showcase what downtown has to offer and for you to showcase your business! Thank you for keeping your businesses clean and attractive for our guests.
