The Erie Downtown Partnership (EDP) will help the community ‘rock the block’ by holding its first Block Party of the season in downtown Erie beginning at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 5th, 2014.
Erie downtown Block Parties have become popular summertime events. These events were created to provide a unique opportunity for the community, local businesses and charities to come together for a good cause and to experience downtown Erie for conversation, shopping and dancing in the streets.
“The Erie Seawolves is the first of our nine scheduled block parties that draw people to downtown and raise money for a good cause” said John Buchna, CEO of the Erie Downtown Partnership. “The Seawolves Block Party is one of our most popular events. This year they’ve teamed up with the downtown YMCA and put together a unique family-oriented event that will set new records” commented Buchna.
Buchna added “Each of these host establishments work with a non-profit organization to raise awareness and funds through our block party events. The Erie Downtown Partnership is proud to say that our 2013 Block Parties have helped raise over $44,000, which is $11,000 more than the previous year.” Buchna also commented, “The money raised during these events stays local and most of these donations were raised one dollar at a time through the hard work of business owners, employees and volunteers. We look forward to another successful season”.
“The Erie Seawolves are proud to host another block party in downtown Erie” said Greg Coleman, General Manager of the Erie Seawolves. “We are in the entertainment business so hosting an event where you can put together different activities with musical acts to help raise money for a local charity is a wonderful thing”.
“The downtown YMCA is different from other charities in that we have our own song. We’re using this event to bring people together to break a new Erie record for simultaneously singing our song – YMCA by the Village People. We ask that anyone interested in joining in on the fun be at the ballpark no later than 8:15 pm so we can all sing along and break a new record” said Tammy Roche, Marketing Director for the Greater Erie YMCAs.
The Erie Downtown Partnership is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization of downtown Erie by improving its image, business climate, physical environment and design.
